Teachers can engage the whole class—or students can work independently—on over 300 customizable activities in language arts, science, and social studies. There are 50 ready-made research assignments that include free, educationally appropriate articles from Grolier Online. Teachers can author their own assignments, too—it’s easy! Teachers can also quickly assess student understanding of sequential information with engaging scramble challenges. Students have fun as they try to put events in order. Students can even create challenges for their classmates to solve. Finally, students work on their critical thinking skills as they fill in missing information in the “Finish Me” timeline activities. Students are given prompts to think about the information as they look for missing pieces.

No more juggling program windows! Students gather information seamlessly from the web using Timeliner XE’s built-in browser. Take electronic notes while researching on the web, without ever leaving the program. This revolutionary technology allows students to even grab online images, sounds, and movies—complete with citations! Notes and media then turn into a finished timeline with just one click.

Communication to build understanding.
Communication is not only a way to share knowledge with others, but is also a way to deepen one’s own understanding. Timeliner XE has been built with this in mind. Students can simply and easily transform their sequences into multimedia slideshow presentations without leaving the program. There are pre-made templates included or students can create their own. You can automatically reorient the Timeliner XE toolbar to the bottom of the screen to make presenting on interactive whiteboards a cinch. Students can also share their understanding with parents by saving their Timeliner XE projects in PDF format.
